Recently, two Police officers were injured in the western state of Michoacán. Reports state that two drones hovered above the officers and dropped explosives onto them.
Last year in August, Similar drones were found in the boot of a vehicle that was being driven by a member of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CGNJ). Police are directly linking this attack to CGNJ and also state that these highly rigged drones could be their new weapons in their battles against other drug cartels attempting to control the city.
The officers who were injured on Tuesday were reportedly clearing the road that leads to the city of Aguililla in Michoacán. The road was blocked by cartel members so no Law enforcement agency could enter the state. Assumingly, when the members of the cartel came to know that Police Officers were clearing the path, they then used their rigged drones to throw explosives at the officers.
In August last year, the two drones seized from the boot of a vehicle that was being driven by the cartel member had small containers attached to them. The containers held ball bearings and explosives. After thorough investigation and research on the two seized drones. Experts revealed that these drones were programmed to release detonable explosives remotely.
There has been news circulating in the city that the two Cartels, CGNJ and their rival group, United Cartel are getting their weapons ready to start a war against each other to control the City. After the news spread among the residents, hundreds of them had fled the city to protect themselves and their families.
CGNJ is eager to take control of the city as the leader of their group, Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes has a strong connection with this city, as the city of Aguililla is where he was born. Nemesio is most commonly known as “El Mencho”.
El Mencho is on top of the most wanted list and is considered one of the most dangerous cartel leaders. CGNJ is considered one of the strongest and most powerful cartels in the country. CGNJ has conducted various attacks on Security forces with the most deadly attack being in 2015, where the gang members ambushed and killed 15 officers. El Mencho has made his cartel so strong that its members are now spread all across the nation. Officials have also stated that this gang was also behind the deadly attack on Mexico City’s Police chief, Omar Garcia Harfuch back in June 2020.
It is stated that El Mencho has increased the velocity of his attacks on security forces after his son, Rubén Oseguera González also known as Menchito (little mencho) was arrested and extradited to the United States on drug trafficking charges.
