We are back with the third and final installment of Richy WiFi released for PSP. This time, we have the highly anticipated, “College Jam”! The last installment saw us getting to know more about Coach Styles (the one from Coach K Records), Jann Arden (one of the founders of Boogies), and even those from underground UK hip-hop/rap group Bauhaus. These guys brought the heat and boy did they deliver!
We have some new tracks this time around and I think we may have heard the last “College Jam” before. The album has seen a lot of rework already but this one is still really fresh and should be taken seriously. The first single from College Jam, “Centuries” will surely be the opener for the album and it’s sure to be a hit. The instrumental is nothing short of fantastic, featuring the sounds of producers like Diplo, Arty Lo, and others. We also have a couple of cuts from the new album: “Acey Young Rapper” and “Look at Me Now”. This is all pretty standard stuff from Richy, who is still rapping about his feelings, love, and experiences with girls.
The second single from Richy Wii Fi, “Slum Gourmet”, is more of a banger. It seems Nintendo felt the need to include some more of their famous characters in this game. Some notable guests are Big Daddy Kane, Remy the Rap Man, and the D-Lux (Remy LaBeouf). This single promises to be a winner.
Last up is our old friend, Mr. EZ Rock. Who would have thought the great Mr. EZ Rock would make a return? A few years back he was on top of the UK charts, but now he is struggling. Maybe he got caught up in the storm of the ‘Gangsta’ series? Whatever the reason, it seems Mr. EZ Rock still has it. Expect this to be his US debut.
The final track, we will cover today is called, “Bored of the Ring”. A homage to Dance Revolution, of course! The first song sounds suspiciously like a song from DDR. The theme is ‘town squares’, which is the Nintendo town you build in the game! This one should be fun.
The B-side is a nice little number as well, consisting of two slow songs. One of them is called, “What Do You Want”. The other B-side is called, “Wake Up to the World”. This B-side has nothing really innovative to it, just an oldie but a goodie. However, it’s worth it for the appearance of Richy wearing a white t-shirt! The crowd loves it.
Here is a review of the singles from Richy Wii Fi: The B-side, “What Do You Want” and the U-side, “Wake Up to the World”. The first track is performed by Dan O’Brien on guitar and vocals. The second track is by David Gutta on keyboards and David Blum on drums. This single sounds very impressive considering the quality of the instruments being used.
Richy Wii Fi makes an exciting debut on Wii, not only because of the excellent production values but also because of the unique feature of the two featured songs from the single. If you haven’t listened to either of these songs, you owe it to yourself to do so! If you have already listened to them, well then you know that they are top notch! I’m looking forward to more from Richy Wii Fi. It is definitely going to be my new favorite Wii game!
The “Wake Up to the World” single seems to be more like an instrumental than a lead tune and is played on a steady bass drum beat. The song begins with a gentle piano melody that soon segues into a loud and booming beat that would have made DJ Twister proud! The lyrics are catchy too about living life to the fullest and being happy. If you have not listened to this song yet, trust me in the near future, you will!
The Upside of Richy Wii Fi is mainly played as a dance music track and would definitely be recommended to those with a good sense of rhythm and a good eye for fresh new musical tastes. In my opinion, this is the best single from Wii to date! The beat is hard and funky and the lyrics are straight out of hip-hop and R&B classics. If you love smooth vocals coupled with hard to beat, this is the track for you. With over 80 bps, this is definitely a high-energy, full-on dance hit.
The last track we are going to talk about is the “Escape from Makatu” Wii game disc. This game revolves around a group of children locked in a dark room. This gets extremely intense when the group finds themselves locked in an elevator and the floor is covered in spiked ropes. There are very intense moments where the group makes a split-second decision and must decide either to continue their downward journey or to fight their way out. The climatic music spikes as soon as the group hits the bottom of the elevator and again there is a split second of tension as the group must make a decision. This one really gets the Adrenalin pumping and I would recommend it to anyone looking to chill out with a good rhythm.
